The Big Issue

The most destructive force that I ever seen is greed
It’s so corrosive that it taints the very air that we breathe
It sits inside a human heart like a seed
Growing twisting constricting we won’t never be freed

It takes root when you think that it’s us or them
So we take more for us and leave nothing for them
You forget that they are our own countrymen
People living in poverty to think it’s our nation

You never see them the poor are invisible
But think about life on the streets you know it’s miserable
After a while the cold and the hunger’s indivisible
Outside the rich man’s mansion it’s despicable

The people living on benefits its living but it’s no life
In the underclass they don’t see you they see a lowlife
You don’t need to kill a man you just give him a shitty life
And watch him destroy himself you know that this problem’s rife

So spare a little change for the sellers of the big issue
Think about what the money means to them compared to you
And if you stop to think about it think it through
You never know the day could come when he is you.
